How does Label Snob work?
Tap the big Scan button, point your camera at any ingredient label, menu, or product, and Label Snob sends the photo to our AI for analysis. You get a verdict in a few seconds: a score from 0 to 100, the ingredient breakdown, and a sharp, opinionated take on what's actually in there.
Is Label Snob giving medical advice?
No. Label Snob is an opinionated ingredient-quality assessment based on our editorial point of view — it's not a doctor, not a registered dietitian, and not a substitute for one. How are my photos used?
The photo you scan is sent over an encrypted connection to our AI for analysis. Anthropic, PBC reads ingredient labels (food, body, supplements, restaurant menus), and Google LLCreads Vibe Check lifestyle photos. Neither provider uses API submissions to train their models, and we don't retain the image on our servers after the scan completes. The verdict text is returned to your device, and saved scans live on your phone (and sync to your account if you're signed in). Full detail in our Privacy Policy.
What does the score mean?
Scores run 0 to 100, across six tiers — from a perfect 100 down to the bottom “NOPE, NOT GOOD.” tier. Lower numbers mean we found more concerns in the ingredient list; higher numbers mean a cleaner composition. The score is an opinion, not a lab result — see How we score for the exact method, every line we won't cross, and the score caps.
What if Label Snob got something wrong?
It happens. The AI is opinionated and occasionally imperfect — blurry labels, partial views, and unusual products can all throw it off. If a verdict feels off, email us at hello@labelsnob.app with the product name and we'll take a look. You can also personalize how Label Snob flags ingredients in the Profile tab.
Do I need an account?
Yes. Label Snob uses Sign in with Apple— it's quick, and it keeps your saved verdicts and preferences synced across devices and through a reinstall. We only ever receive the email Apple shares (you can use Apple's private relay to keep your real address hidden) and an anonymous identifier. See our Privacy Policy for exactly what we collect.
How do I personalize verdicts?
Open the Profile tab and set the ingredients you want flagged — allergens, intolerances, anything you personally avoid. Your preferences carry through to every scan, so verdicts surface what matters to you first.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple. Open the Settings app on your iPhone, tap your Apple ID at the top, then Subscriptions, then Label Snob, and tap Cancel. You can also reach it from inside the app: Profile → Manage Subscription. Your access stays active until the end of the current billing period.
How do I restore purchases on a new device?
Sign in to your new device with the same Apple ID you used for the original purchase, open Label Snob, and tap Profile → Restore Purchases. Your subscription or Founder Edition entitlement will reattach in a few seconds.
How do I delete my account?
Open Profile → Account → Delete Account. This permanently removes your account and any data tied to it, consistent with our Privacy Policy. Subscriptions are managed by Apple separately and need to be canceled in Settings (see above).
Troubleshooting
Camera permission isn't working
Open the iOS Settings app → Privacy & Security → Camera → toggle Label Snob on. Then relaunch the app and try Scan again.
Sign-in stuck or failed
Check your internet connection, then sign out and back in from the Profile tab. If it's still stuck, email hello@labelsnob.app with a quick note about what you're seeing.
Restore Purchases isn't finding my subscription
Confirm you're signed in to your iPhone with the same Apple ID you used to purchase. Open Settings → tap your name at the top → confirm the email there matches. Then re-run Profile → Restore Purchases.
A scan failed or returned an unexpected verdict
Make sure the label text is clearly visible, well-lit, and in focus — one product per scan works best. Avoid glare and cropped edges. If it keeps failing on a clean label, email us with the product name.
Adjust notifications
Open the iOS Settings app → Notifications → Label Snob, and choose the styles you want. You can turn them off entirely or leave them on for scan reminders.
